The world changed in March 2020, when coronavirus spread across the globe. We watched the devastation in China and then Italy. And after a few weeks, it arrived in the USA, where the economy is halted, state by state. And after a few months, we see a new world where social distance and sanitizer are part of our lifestyles. From each individual to big business, everyone are in shock and fear. Our homes are transformed into workplaces and schools. 

As an agile coach, I find myself in a position where I need to upgrade myself quickly so that I can help my clients and their organization. It's my responsibility to train an organization to help them decide which activities to continue and which to stop, what to communicate and how, and ways to stay connected to customers and team members. It is the time when we need team play and mutual support more than ever. It is my responsibility to train the management on how to minimize the effect of this sudden change and give them confidence so that there is a sense of 'things are under control" in them, and they can react smartly. Executive's energy level hits a low by staying home for such a long time; this is due to the absence of a working atmosphere which they are used to for such a long time.  

Layoffs, compensation reductions, termination are started in the organizations. It is a very painful job for the management this time as this time, and it is not natural and expected. And somehow it is going to affect their mental condition. It's an agile coach duty to convey the message in a way that they can understand this year is about raw survival. An organization or individual success is the secondary thing.  

Regardless of the uncertain changes as an agile coach, I know many coaching and training techniques are highly effective during this situation.

Different organizations may react to the corona virus pandemic in very different ways. But one thing is sure that the mindset of each individual is not in the right or at its best shape. Many NGOs, along with World Health Organization (WHO) worried about the mental health of every individual due to this sudden change in lifestyle, and this maybe has its footprint in our psychological health for long term. It is often seen that during this type of crisis, rumours spread very easily within the employees. And here an agile coach can help how to maintain transparency as much as possible through proper and honest communication in order to build and strengthen the trust. This will help in uplift the spirit of loyalty and confidence in employees mind.  

 

Above all, an agile coach helps the top management/leaders to adopt new vision during this challenging time because crisis are exactly when leaders need to challenge their old habits and negative thoughts and focus on the opportunities that may come up. Prepare the management to ensure that their organization will come out of this and any crisis and to face the future.
